Canine Therapy Corps.

Magic of Design

I was tasked with redesigning the conceptual homepage for a local nonprofit in Chicago called Canine Therapy Corps.

Since 1991, Canine Therapy Corps’ volunteers and certified therapy dogs have been serving the Chicago metropolitan area. They work with health care, education, and social services professionals, helping people recover from physical and emotional trauma.

My goal was to design a website that reflected the organization’s continued trust and reliability within the Chicagoland community, while creating a narrative of the human-animal bond.

Fetching the Vision

Discovery & Strategy

First, identifying the problems with the website.

  1. Is it clear what this organization does?
  2. Can users find what they need easily?
  3. Is the navigation easy to use?

Analyzed and compared Canine Therapy Corps website and other nonprofits.

The Plan

I began by creating a navigation sitemap to visually map out the website’s information architecture. This helped me understand the content distribution and identify areas for improvement.

There was redundant information across the site, and links leading to unrelated pages. Additionally, some menu items could be better organized. With this, I streamlined the navigation into four main options, complemented by two prominent call-to-action buttons to enhance the user experience.

Throughout the wireframing process, I focused on creating a clear visual hierarchy, intuitive navigation, and a logical flow of information.

Trained Design

Key Site Elements

I streamlined the navigation for the page. The menu options are Services, Get Involved, About Us, and Contact Us. Included a Donate, Volunteer, Search, and Store buttons. As for the hero image of the header, I took inspiration from the founder, Callandre A Cozzolinio’s quote:

“We harness the magic between human and animal bond.”

Buttons

There were three sets of buttons on the website: one set of call-to-action buttons, indistinct text links, and ‘click here’ text links.

Across the homepage, I designed strategies to effectively convey information about the organization. The objective was to present content in a concise, engaging manner, while prioritizing visual hierarchy for optimal user experience.
